There are some very questionable ways to get to the top Humorous arcade action Even if some of the things you have to do to achieve this goal are questionable at best. Watching your profits and business rise back to glory is rewarding and enjoyable. It does get quite addictive taking over the map and exponentially getting more things to do. Some businesses you buy have additional jobs or side missions associated with them and some businesses unlock more things in their relevant area of the map. It’s a nice little system that I had a lot of fun with. This bolsters your real estate portfolio and increases the amount of cash you get on a daily basis. It’s your job to drag your company back into the modern era, mostly by using criminal and frankly illogical methods to turn your company’s fortunes around.ĭuring your time in Shakedown: Hawaii you will be buying, upgrading and conning businesses into your possession. It was fun to play, not overly complicated and a nice little title that is like nothing else on the market. The writing was humorous and the game did not take itself too seriously. I loved it’s easter eggs and its nods to classic video games and video game culture. I really liked Retro City Rampage, I enjoyed the over the top arcade action and its absurd humour. Replacing the genre’s more commonly populated gangs and mobsters, are boardroom executives, formulating harebrained schemes to increase margins and boost profits.īut, whether you’re cornering the market on avocado toast or masterminding new hidden service fees, the missions ultimately unravel into the same carjacking, combat and shootouts you’d expect from the genre.Developer VBlank have finally unleashed Shakedown: Hawaii, the follow up to the 2012 retro open world game, Retro City Rampage. He’ll need to modernize the business! Unfortunately, the modernizations he chooses are exactly those comically egregious practices! From the Boardroom to the Streets Upon discovering that online shopping’s destroyed his retail margins, ride sharing killed his taxi business, and video rental stores… are no longer actually a thing… it becomes clear that keeping the company alive will require drastic measures. You play an aging CEO, stranded in a world he no longer understands, with a company that’s now a relic of the past. Where ‘Retro City Rampage’ was a send up to video games and pop culture, ‘Shakedown: Hawaii’ is a parody of mega corporations, white collar crimes, and the most comically egregious business practices that go alongside.

Today, the game’s finally fully revealed – its theme, story, protagonist, and… business acquisition metagame!Ĭheck out the trailer and rundown below for the full scoop… During that time, I’ve trickled out teasers, but they’ve only given you a peek at the art style, music, and the destructible environment. It’s a new game, not Retro City Rampage 2, so there was a lot that had to be built. Since then, I’ve been busy at work on the game, and it’s come a very long way. The new music direction went over super well too! Having explored so many different potential art styles with so many different artists, it looked like I’d ultimately chosen the right one. So with that said, I couldn’t have been happier ( and relieved) with how well it was received. I hoped that whatever that was, it would line up with what Shakedown is. I had no idea what everyone’s reaction would be, knowing that after Retro City Rampage, each of you would have your own picture in mind of what the next game would look like. ‘Shakedown: Hawaii’ was first announced right here, a year and a half ago.
